AUDIO-REACTIVE THUNDERSTORM

TOUCHDESIGNER / AUDIO-VISUALIZER

Inspired by nature, I created a audio visualizer which visuals resembles heavy clouds, lightning and rain. The visualizer responds to the soundscapes which consists of sounds birds, leaves, rain and loud thunder. The outcome is created in TouchDesigner, using Audio Analysing tools to extract CHOP data that allows the audio to directly manipulate the visual’s shape and form.

THE DIFFERENT VISUAL STATES

There are three main visual states in this visualizer, where they can overlap / happen simulatenously. I identified three types of distinct sounds (birds, leaves and thunder) and allocated them to a specific parameter of the visual to be manipulated, which mainly involve colors, shape and particle density.

ANALYZING THE SOUNDSCAPE

Using TouchDesigner's Audio Analysis, the data from specific frequencies in the soundscape was extracted and translated into usable numeric data which can be applied to the parameters of the visual. As the soundscape plays, the changes in the audio data will alter the visuals and thus create a audio reactive experience.
